Bill Ward is an English musician and visual artist. He’s the original drummer of the legendary rock act Black Sabbath, and he’s been playing with the band since 1966 (with a brief hiatus in the ’80s). Ward started playing alongside Tony Iommi in a band called Mythology, grouped with Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Butler’s band Rare Breed.
A highly influential drummer himself, Ward was inspired by the likes of Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, and Ringo Starr. Black Sabbath is still a pop culture phenomenon today: in 2021, the heavy metal group Helstar covered Sabbath’s song “After All (The Dead)” in their new EP Clad in Black.
