For Shirley Jones, it paid to build a career around playing wholesome, bright-eyed characters in films like Carousel, Oklahoma, and The Music Man. But when she switched to playing a grittier role as a female escort in the film Elmer Gantry, she won an Oscar for Best Actress.
Jones returned to her wholesome persona in the hit sitcom The Partridge Family, where she starred as the matriarch, Shirley Partridge, alongside her stepson David Cassidy. She also had a productive singing career with her husband, Jack Cassidy. Jones has a role in an upcoming 2021 film called Forgiven This Gun4hire.
