Before Alan Alda became a household name as the quick-witted Hawkeye in “M*A*S*H,” he had a stint in the U.S. Army Reserve. This chapter of his life unfolded in the 1950s amidst a backdrop of rock ‘n’ roll and classic diners. Alan’s military journey began at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he trained as a gunnery officer.

His journey took a creative turn at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he put his burgeoning acting skills to use, directing and performing in instructional films for the Army.
