Hollywood’s Hidden Heroes: You Won’t Believe Which Celebrities Served in the Military!
Jimi Hendrix – Private, U.S. Infantry
Jimi Hendrix, the electric guitar maestro whose riffs electrified the music world, had a lesser-known stint in the military. Before he dazzled audiences with his psychedelic sounds, Jimi enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961. He joined the 101st Airborne Division and was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
His military career, however, was short-lived and somewhat unconventional. Instead of marching to the beat of army drums, Jimi was more interested in strumming his guitar. It’s said that his bunkmate had to request a transfer due to his constant guitar playing! In 1962, after just one year, he was honorably discharged.
