Kris Kristofferson, the gravelly-voiced country music legend, swapped his guitar for a uniform long before he became a star. After graduating from Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, Kris joined the U.S. Air Force in the early 1960s. Stationed in West Germany, he became a Captain, piloting helicopters with a cool head and steady hands.
