Andrew McCarthy grew up in New Jersey and had always dreamed of becoming an actor. He was lucky enough to get his first role in the movie Class that was released in 1983. His career gained ground after doing the films St. Elmo’s Fire, Mannequin, and Pretty in Pink. His most recent role was on the TV show The Family. The actor admitted once that he was an alcoholic in his younger days, but he eventually became sober after getting into an alcohol rehab facility. McCarthy must have done a new bank account opening when he started working on the side as National Geographic Magazine’s Editor at Large.
