Ted Cruz and his family were criticized in February 2021 for taking a vacation to Mexico during a snowstorm in Texas. Despite the massive backlash, his wife, Heidi Cruz, stayed by him. In January 2001, they went on their first date in an Austin pub, and in May of that year, they married. The couple has two children, Caroline and Catherine.
They had a long-distance marriage for two years after their wedding, during which Ted worked in Austin, and Heidi stayed behind to work in the National Security Council.
