Private Vs Public Lawyers: Which One Suits You The Most?
There is only one main goal people usually have when it comes to choosing a lawyer to legally represent them, and that is to actually win the case they filed or filed against them. However, there are of course two different types of lawyers. There is the public attorney who works for the government, and there are private attorneys who work in private firms. Let’s get to know their similarities and differences to check which ones suits you better.
[su_quote cite=”Charles Dickens” class=”cust-pagination”]“Lawyers are shy of meddling with the law on their own account: known it to be an edged tool of uncertain application, very expensive in the working, and rather remarkable for its properties of close shaving than for its always shaving the right person.” [/su_quote]
Both public and private attorneys pretty much have the same basic qualifications, since none of them are allowed to practice law without having a license. They also have the same ethical obligations to the society and of course to their judicial system, depending on the state or country.
PUBLIC ATTORNEYS
Public attorneys are of course real legal defenders, they went to law school and passed the bar. Lawyers have of course the choice whether they wish to want to work with the government, or if they would want to work in a private law firm.
It costs less
Public lawyers work for the government, which means that if you need one, the public office will give you one. That is one of the downsides of getting a public lawyer, you wouldn’t be able to choose simply because it is free. Public lawyers are for people who cannot afford to hire a private one to be able to defend themselves and legally represent them. Public lawyers are given to people who ask for it, in some states or countries, it would sometimes depend on the source and annual income, if you’re a CEO of a company, they wouldn’t most likely let you have a public lawyer since you could obviously afford a private one, they will prioritize the citizens who need it the most.
Limited attention given
Unfortunately, despite the fact that having a public attorney is free, that would also mean that they wouldn’t be able to focus on your case alone. It is expected that your case is not the only case that your public attorney is handling, so they sometimes cannot give you their undivided attention, they may not even have meetings with you personally.
Might take longer
Having a public attorney would also mean that it might take you a while to get your case processed. Like what has been mentioned above, a public attorney holds multiple cases and he or she is most likely less focused, but then, since you are not the one paying them, there is just nothing you could do but to wait.
PRIVATE ATTORNEY
Private attorneys are the reason why being a lawyer is one of the highest paid jobs in the world, next to physicians. They get paid thousands and thousands of dollars on every sign case they handle.
[su_quote cite=”Fred Rodell” class=”cust-pagination”]“The Lawyers’ trade is a trade built entirely on words, and so long as the lawyers carefully keep to themselves the key to what those words mean, the only way the average man can find out what is going on is to become a lawyer, or at least to study law, himself. All of which makes it very nice, and very secure for the lawyers.” [/su_quote]
A little pricey
Hiring a lawyer from a private firm would cost a fortune, you are not just paying for them to help you win, you are paying for their time, effort, knowledge, and of course, experience. That wisdom doesn’t get used for free. So be prepared to spend tons of money if you want a private lawyer.
Flexible options
Since you will be the one hiring your lawyer, you would, of course, have the power to choose the best, but of course, the best ones are often the most expensive ones. If you made a great choice, you will most likely win the case.
More dedication
Private lawyers are definitely more hands on when it comes to dealing with your case. They would most likely want to meet with you often to discuss strategies and sometimes get his or her investigators to gather proof for the benefit of your case.
It doesn’t really matter if you get a public or private attorney, just keep in mind that justice will always be served to those who deserve it, even if it might take a long time.
