Annoyed by a Troublesome Neighbor? Here’s How You Can Resolve the Issue
Whether you just moved to a new town or you’ve been living in the area for a decade, fallouts with your neighbors are just ordinary. Be it his/her dog taking a dump in front of your house, the unbearable and loud parties every night that make it impossible to sleep, or the rumors he/she keeps spreading about you, it’s one of the problems that’s bound to happen. This is especially hard for those who just bought a property without realizing they have unideal neighbors.

Sorry to burst your bubble but not everyone has the same attitude as you. There are just times when they simply don’t jive with your mindset or when everything they do irritates you.
As the day goes by, it could get harder and harder to deal with the pesky ones. It’s downright stressful to have to avoid your enemies at all times, so what should you do?
First Thing’s First
They say you should love your neighbor as you love yourself, but that’s a hard feat that some never get to a point to. But before you arrive into any conclusions, the first and right thing to do is to talk to them – maybe they’re not aware that they’re disturbing you or they’re causing stress, so the safest thing to do is to clarify matters with them.

However, this is not the time to brag and be condescending. Try to be polite and respectful of how you speak and try to understand their explanations of their actions. Don’t be demanding because that may make things worse, so compromise with them.
It is best that you talk to them personally to avoid any further misunderstandings. Remember, you may be neighbors for the rest of your lives so diplomacy will definitely go a long way.
Help from Others
If they won’t budge or are simply too stubborn to hear your side, then you could ask for help from other people. Advise your neighbor to go to a mediation session with you, which involves a third-party mediator who will impartially facilitate the talk. He/she won’t make any decision for any party but would suggest.

If it’s the noise you can’t bear, you can complain at the local council that will mandate an officer to check the report. Once they found that your neighbor indeed causes a nuisance, then they will get the attention of your neighbor.
If you’re dealing with a tenant, then you could ask his/her landlord to talk to the erring person. This is because the owner has the responsibility to make sure his/her tenants abide by the rules. However, if you are dealing with a violent neighbor, or one that discriminates, your best move is to call the police.
Last Resort
If your neighbor still continued with the actions, then you may do things legally. As you would know, this will definitely cost you more than other dispute resolution methods. It’s also more stressful, time-consuming, and energy-depleting than other means. Finally, you can expect that your friendship will forever have a crack.
